Lesson Plan

Activity 1: (5–7 minutes) OVERVIEW OF IN FOCUS

Framework (slide 2)

  • Based on the research
  • We use the term well-being as an overarching term that not only represents Social well-being and Emotional well-being but encompasses the competencies that all students need to thrive.
  • Our framework of well-being also includes physical well-being, mental well-being, and academic well-being.
  • Our framework not only includes students but also includes administrators, teachers, counselors, and other support staff. It is important that we support the entire system.

Activity 2: (2–3 minutes) IN FOCUS FEATURES

  • We are Prekinder–Grade 12.
  • Each grade has over 30 lessons with grade-appropriate activities written for that grade level.
  • It was written to be a resource in multi-tiered systems of support. Classroom teachers use the resources in Tier 1 for all students. Counselors and administrators use it in Tier 2 with small groups and Tier 3 with individual students.
  • Because our lessons are written by counselors, teachers, and administrators, we recognize how valuable your prep time is. To minimize teacher prep, we include all of the resources you need for the lesson in the lesson.
  • All of our resources are available in both English and Spanish.

Scope and Sequence (slide 4)

  • Our scope and sequence is based on our framework.
  • You will see dedicated units to each competency area as well as units dedicated to the conditions of well-being and connection (based on Maslow’s Hierarchy).
  • (Slide 5–7) We also have many schools who use our curriculum in the name of character ed, and so you will see lessons dedicated to character and citizenship.

Educator Well-Being Course (slide 8)

  • Introduce upcoming educator well-being courses. We will be meeting on Tuesdays from 4:00–5:30 pm over Zoom.
  • Get USBE relicensure hours, credit, or SUU credit.

Parent Guides (slide 9)

  • Each lesson has a 1-page summary of the lesson for parents. It overviews the lesson content and strategies, as well as provides conversation starters and activities for families to do at home to extend the learning.
  • We know not all parents are in a place to do this but the parents that do are grateful for the added trust and transparency, as well as the additional well-being resources available at home.

Activity 3: (10 minutes) SHARE A LESSON EXAMPLE

  • Membership page: When you log in, you will see the grades you have access to.
  • Unit page: Each grade is organized by unit.

    • Far right column is where you will find our content.
      • Lesson Objectives
      • Lesson Content is a summary of the content for you, the teachers, including our essential terms and vocabulary.
